LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 29, 2016) — The University of Kentucky Student Government Association is now accepting applications for its Leadership Development Program (LDP), an initiative dedicated to building future leaders on campus from the freshman class.
As part of the LDP, those selected will have the opportunity to learn what it takes to be a leader on campus by networking with other student leaders and the university’s administration, learning about various student organizations on campus and exploring their own personal growth as a leader.
“The Leadership Development Program enables students to explore the different opportunities our campus provides as well as learn more about their own leadership style,” said Ben Childress, SGA student body vice president.
Last year, more than 200 applications were received. Applications are evaluated based on several criteria, including leadership potential and experience, academic success and dedication to community service.
Applicants are screened and half will advance to the interview process. There are two parts to the interviews: “speed dating” style and individual traditional style. The interviewers are student leaders from across campus, not just Student Government.
The top 40 students are chosen to participate in the program. Some of the events and activities that are planned this year include:
• Introduction to SGA, Student Activities Board, Center for Community Outreach, Leadership Exchange Ambassadors, WRFL and DanceBlue with various activities
• Wrap Up America fort-building competition, a service project to collect blankets for homeless individuals in the Lexington community
• Leadership and diversity workshops conducted through various campus organizations
• Discussion and Q&A with University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto
• Resume Workshop at the Stuckert Career Center
• Networking Dinner with the UK Alumni Association
Apply here. Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14.
